It was another tough night at the X Factor judging table. Stan Walker was left with the final decision between two of Ruby Frost’s boys and it seemed like he would either break into tears (yes, again!) or his head would explode.
Somehow astonishly, the public had shown support for at times shaky girl group Gap 5 and left Frost standing on the shopping block with spaced out rocker boy Tom Bachelor and dreamy heart-throb Benny Tipene.
And while telling Bachelor his voice was “out of this world” Walker still did sent him packing.
But let’s go back to the beginning of this surprisingly captivating episode.
Host Dominic Bowden, who now seems to have settled on his black funeral suit (much better than those grey accountant numbers of earlier episodes anyway) introduced the judges as the four musketeers.
Which is a bit lame, given that three should be the number and their motto is as far removed from the original as it could be. But, I guess, one has to fill the time somehow.
Before we cut to the chase we were introduced to a segment where the contestants were visiting the Ronald McDonald House in Auckland.
Playing with the kids, golden voice Whneua Patuwai got to be a manly knight while Tom Bachelor played a fair princess. So cute and odd at the same time.
This actually did let me pack away all cynicism for a moment. It was just a wonderful thing to do, but did they really say they were baking cocaine Makes the mind boggle….
To shorten the wait until the bottom two were announced we had Dane Rumble singing his latest song for us.
I know he’s doing rather well in this country, but he’s just not my cup of tea.
And I will freely admit my lack of knowledge and involvement with the Rumble, but the Twittersphere seemed to have a hard time recognising him without his sunglasses and wasn’t quite sure if it wasn’t
