New Zealand audiences will get first shot at seeing the latest movie from the team behind Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.
Director Edgar Wright has announced via Twitter that his latest film, The World’s End, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, will premiere in New Zealand on July 18.
‘‘Okay NZ, you get your good news now. The World’s End opens July 18th in New Zealand. And we are coming over too,’’ he tweeted.
The trio, who were behind cult hits Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, have a long association with New Zealand, especially Pegg who did a stint at Bats Theatre in Wellington in 1996.
Pegg and Frost appeared as Thompson and Thomson in Wellington-made The Adventures of Tintin.
Movie website imdb.com describes The World’s End as a tale of ‘‘five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind’s only hope for survival’’.
Written by Pegg and Wright, it stars Pegg, Frost, Rosamund Pike, and Martin Freeman, star of The Hobbit, another film based in Wellington.
It was not immediately clear if the New Zealand opening would be a world premiere.
