TV2 sets date for Home and Away

Australian soap Home and Away will be screened on TV2 at 5.30pm from August 19.

It was announced last week that TV3, whose owner, MediaWorks, is in receivership, had lost the rights to broadcast the long-running show.

TVNZ’s head of TV ONE and TV2, Jeff Latch, said: “We’re delighted to give Home and Away fans what they want with this fantastic week-night timeslot.

“They won’t miss an episode as the first-rate storylines continue on TV2 from August 19.”

The soap would also be available on TVNZ Ondemand.

“Fear of missing out is strong among soap fans, which is why they’re such big users of TVNZ Ondemand,” he said.

“Shortland Street alone racks up more than 160,000 online streams each week.”

TV2 will screen next-day repeats of Home and Away at 11am, as well as a 150-minute omnibus on Sunday afternoons.

MediaWorks said it was disappointed that the distributor of Home and Away had chosen to cancel its contract and grant the show’s licence to TVNZ.

Home and Away consistently won high ratings for TV3 and delivered audiences to 3 News. TV3’s licence for Home and Away had been in place since 2002.

MediaWorks was placed in receivership on June 17 with debts of $700 million. The business is set to be sold as a going concern to a consortium of its lenders.

Home and Away is a Seven Network Production and distributed in New Zealand by Endemol.
