Former King of Queens star Leah Remini has publicly revealed why she left the Church of Scientology.
Remini told People magazine that she broke free because she wasn’t going to let church leaders silence her for questioning their rule.
“I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct,” she told the magazine.
“That for me, that’s what I’m about. It wouldn’t matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to.”
It has been reported that Remini was blacklisted and punished by the church after she questioned its leader, David Miscavige.
Miscavige, who is close friends with the church’s cheerleader-in-chief, Tom Cruise, has been accused of subjecting members who speak out to interrogations, humiliating punishments and “thought modification”.
