You may have used audio guides when visiting a foreign city, or downloaded sightseeing and dining tips to your Web-enabled phone. But travelers to Hong Kong can now take advantage of a device that not only introduces the city in over 80 preloaded video clips, but also offers free local calls and a host of other visitor-friendly features.
Malaysian actress Sarah Lian hosts the video component of Ask Ting Ting, as the first-of-its-kind device is named. She’ll walk you through Hong Kong’s must-sees and relay expert recommendations on food, nightlife and all things fabulous. But it’s the nifty tech features that travelers will probably find most useful. Ask Ting Ting is also a Samsung smart phone, so users receive a Hong Kong phone number and unlimited Internet access. The device helps you choose optimal transport modes and routes. It also comes with a Take Me Home feature that presents users with the most direct route from their current location to their hotel or apartment in both English and Chinese, making communicating with taxi drivers a breeze. And there’s a camera to take photos for instant e-mailing to the folks back home.
Ask Ting Ting can be rented from $25 a day at major hotels and serviced-apartment complexes. Plans are afoot to roll it out to other Asian cities, including Singapore and Shanghai. Visit www.asktingting.com for more.
