Tom Cruise ‘settles lawsuit’

Tom Cruise has supposedly resolved his defamation lawsuit.

The 51-year-old actor brought a $50 million case against Bauer Publishing, publisher of Life & Style and In Touch magazines, for saying he “abandoned” Suri, Tom’s daughter with ex-wife Katie Holmes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom and the company “stipulated to the dismissal” of the matter in a California federal court on Friday.

Although the settlement terms are sealed, the outlet claims their arrangement acknowledges that each party will pay their own legal costs.

And TMZ reports “part of the deal was that Bauer Publishing now publicly says it never intended to imply Cruise abandoned his daughter”.

Lawyers for the star have always insisted he never ignored or gave up his child.

“He never abandoned her [Suri],” Bert Fields, one of Tom’s attorneys, told E! News.

“After the divorce, he talked to her every day and sometimes twice a day because he was very concerned.”

Bert went on to reveal Cruise would be “seeing [Suri] a lot,” over the holidays and added “he loves his child”.

Tom’s divorce from Suri’s mother Katie was finalised in July 2012, less than two weeks after their split was announced.

Under New York state law, details on their settlement agreement remain sealed.

Suri currently resides with her mum in New York City.
