Take a walk through the real Middle Earth, page by page.
Tourism New Zealand has installed an enormous pop-up book of New Zealand in Hollywood hotel, the Beverly Hilton, where vistors can walk through some of the landscapes featured in The Hobbit Trilogy.
The installation will be open for five days, to coincide with the Hollywood world premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The book is the size of two tennis courts, and is 50 feet high.
It features inspiring landscapes from New Zealand including: Lake Town – Lake Pukaki/Aoraki-Mt Cook, Forest River – Pelorous River/Marlborough, Beorn’s House – Paradise/Glenorchy and Hidden Bay – Turoa/Central Plateau.
“People who step into the pages of the book are taken on a unique journey that combines the magic of Middle-earth and The Hobbit Trilogy with the reality of New Zealand, bringing the tourism experience of New Zealand to life,” Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive Kevin Bowler said.
The Desolation of Smaug will be the second of three films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
Sir Peter Jackson shot all of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films in New Zealand and the Oscar winner joked he might even squeeze out a fourth Hobbit film.
”We have a few little corners of New Zealand that we’re saving up for The Hobbit: Part Four,” Jackson smiled. ”You never know.”
Though the installation is by invitation only, fans can turn up to a tour for the public tomorrow.
