MediaWorks will next week launch the television equivalent of its radio station, with The Edge TV offering an “edgy” lineup of shows, with names like Scandal and Perve.
The Edge programme director Leon Wratt said the new TV channel would serve as an extension of the radio brand when it went to air tomorrow week.
It would play music videos, screen specialist music and pop culture shows and broadcast original video content filmed with its radio hosts, he said.
Ross Flahive has returned to New Zealand from Dubai to be the channel’s content manager.
“The Edge TV will offer fans a new dimension to The Edge experience,” he said.
“This is a big step forward in the evolution of radio for both listeners and clients, and it’s exciting for The Edge to be leading the way.”
Among programmes listed on The Edge’s website for the new channel are The Edge Fat 40, The Music Lab, hosted by afternoon radio presenter Sharyn Casey, and Scandal, described as covering the hottest entertainment news and celebrity gossip.
Perhaps the standout in the new lineup is the aptly titled Perve, described as being: “For your viewing pleasure. The sexiest clips in the world today. Enough said.”
The channel’s launch will come one day after broader changes to MediaWorks’ TV offerings.
The changes will see the launch of channel FOUR Plus One and the demise of music video channel C4, which started in October 2003.
The Edge TV will begin broadcasting at 4pm on June 27 on Freeview channel 11 and Sky channel 114.
