All those who were planning to see Shia LaBeouf’s sex film, Nymphomaniac, in the hope of seeing his … ahem, man bits should prepare for disappointment.
His bits aren’t his bits.
The producer of director Lars von Trier’s upcoming two-part film told The Hollywood Reporter at the Cannes film festival that all the interesting stuff will be digitally replaced.
Louise Vesth said that the film, whose all-star cast also includes Uma Thurman, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, will feature scenes of graphic sex.
However, “we shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two. So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles.”
The work needed to create the digital match-ups is one reason why the film wasn’t ready for Cannes.
Von Trier is notorious in arthouse circles for breaking taboos and for his no-frills style of direction. But he’s also known for running at the mouth at Cannes.
In 2011, the festival’s board of directors banned him after he claimed at a press conference to have some sympathy for Adolf Hitler.
“What can I say I understand Hitler, but I think he did some wrong things, yes, absolutely,” he said. “He’s not what you would call a good guy, but I understand much about him, and I sympathize with him a little bit. But come on, I’m not for the Second World War, and I’m not against Jews. … I am of course very much for Jews, no not too much, because Israel is pain in the ass, but still how can I get out of this sentence.”
