Taylor Swift and Lorde have dashed celebrity feud rumours with the Kiwi pop sensation putting in an appearance at Swift’s concert this evening.
Fans at the performance in Vector Arena, Auckland, took to Twitter when Lorde, the stage-name of Auckland teen Ella Yelich-O’Connor, was spotted in the crowd.
Swift was reported to give Lorde a hug and kiss on the cheek before returning to perform on-stage.
Lorde first sparked controversy when she told Metro magazine in its October edition: “Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls,” she said.
“‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde’ That’s f—— bullshit.”
Lorde later admitted that she “cocked that up a bit and what I said wasn’t put in context”.
She said Swift’s name was the first that popped into her head when she was making a point about teens being unable to accept their own imperfections.
“There’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and I wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect because I think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense Photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection,” she wrote on Tumblr.
Earlier this month, a fan tweeted a picture of the two of them supposedly eating lunch together in New York City, which gossip magazines have taken as proof the pair had buried the hatchet.
