After all the anticipation and hubbub, the weekend is coming to an end and the box office results are here: "Watchmen" (No. 1) grossed $55.7 million during its first frame, according to early estimates from Media by Numbers. That’s a solid sum, to be sure, although it’s certainly on the low end of most projections.

Dodgers field almost 7,000 seekers for 500 part-time jobs
The long lines of parked cars outside Dodger Stadium could have been the typical sign of an afternoon game featuring the Boys in Blue. But the massive crowd of cars at the stadium during the weekend had more to do with income than infield plays. A two-day job fair to fill some 500 part-time jobs during the baseball season, from stadium security to hawking beer during the games, attracted nearly 7,000 applicants.
Olmert: Gaza will face ‘painful’ hit if attacks don’t stop
Israel will hit back at Palestinian-controlled Gaza with a "sharp, painful and strong response" if rocket attacks do not stop, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday. Rocket fire from Gaza, which is run by the militant Hamas movement, was the main reason cited for Israel’s three-week assault on the territory in December and January. The air and land campaign left about 1,300 Palestinians dead.
Film Festival for Kids: High on Art, Low on Pandas
The New York International Children’s Film Festival , which opens this weekend, is the biggest children’s film festival in the U.S. This is not the kind of event where they screen Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears Another Who or Madagascar 3: Botswanarama! You can’t help feeling that if Rush Limbaugh were to come up with his fantasy politically-correct liberal-media-élite pile-on, it would sound a lot like a planning session for the NYICFF.
