Title race revived as Liverpool crush United

The Premier League title race was thrown wide open on Saturday as Liverpool crushed 10-man Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford to move to within four points of the defending champions. Rafael Benitez’s side superbly responded from going a goal behind as Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard turned the match on its head before the break, with Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena easing Liverpool well clear in the second half. In contrast, it was a day to forget for United defender Nemanja Vidic, who gifted Torres the equalizer before being sent off against Liverpool for the second time this season

Abducted aid workers released in Darfur

Sudanese authorities have said a team of its doctors abducted Wednesday in Darfur has been released, the medical humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres said Friday A Canadian nurse, an Italian doctor and a French coordinator were abducted Wednesday night. Two Sudanese workers were also captured and freed, the group said. The incident took place in Serif Umra, the Sudanese province in northern Darfur

U.S. reverses policy, drops ‘enemy combatant’ term

In a dramatic break with the Bush administration, the Justice Department on Friday announced it is doing away with the designation of "enemy combatant," which allowed the United States to hold suspected terrorists at length without criminal charges. In a court filing in Washington, the Justice Department said it is developing a new standard for the government’s authority to hold detainees at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba.
