Girl, 16, to sail solo around the world

A 16 year-old Australian schoolgirl is hoping to achieve a sailing feat that is so tough it has brought many experienced men and women to the brink of death. Jessica Watson, of Mooloolaba, Queensland, plans to set out on a solo round-the-world sailing mission in November — and hopes to become the youngest person to ever sail non-stop around the world alone.

An Atlanta, Georgia, lawyer, whose well-publicized bout with tuberculosis caused an international health scare, is suing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for invasion of privacy. Obama heads to Mexico amid escalating drug violence

President Obama travels to Mexico on Thursday as the United States’ neighbor to the south continues to wrestle with increasingly deadly drug wars. Obama recently announced a crackdown on border violence and on the smuggling of cash and weapons into Mexico — a step that could mark an end to a blame game over where responsibility for the violence lies. The president recently designated three Mexican organizations, which he says are involved in drug trafficking, to face hefty financial sanctions under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday.

‘You’re going to die the way you live’

When George Dello of San Diego was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told he had at best five months to live, he didn’t immediately begin the chemotherapy treatments his doctor recommended. Instead, he and his wife, Pam, drove up the California coast and spent a week among the redwoods north of San Francisco. “These trees are 5 feet wide and 150 feet tall,” said Dello, 43.
