Police testify against Mumbai shooting suspect

A handful of policemen armed only with bamboo sticks overpowered a suspected gunman in last November’s terrorist attacks on India’s largest city, prosecutors said Tuesday in the trial of the sole surviving suspect. Prosecution witnesses testified that the suspect, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, shot and killed Assistant Police Inspector Tukaram Omble, who had intercepted Kasab’s car during the four-day siege in Mumbai, according to special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Mumbai attack suspect admits he is adult

The lone surviving suspect from last year’s Mumbai terror strikes Wednesday inadvertently admitted he is 21 years old, contradicting his earlier assertion that he was a juvenile, attorneys said. The admission means Mohammed Ajmal Kasab can now face trial on charges including waging war against India, murder and attempted murder.

Clinton unveils initiative to combat ‘scourge of piracy’

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday unveiled a diplomatic initiative to thwart attacks on ships off Somalia’s coast and combat what she called the "scourge of piracy."
