Alina Radu’s newsroom in Moldova has turned into an impromptu safehouse for local journalists, as their attempts to cover massive anti-government protests this week have put them in danger in the former Soviet state. Radu, director of the Moldova’s weekly newspaper, Ziarul de Garda, told CNN Friday that attacks from authorities against journalists are the worst she has seen in her 20 years of experience as a journalist. She said more than 10 reporters were huddled in her newsroom, afraid to return home.

Gioacchino Giuliani, an employee at a physics institute at Gran Sasso, near the badly-hit city of L’Aquila, has demanded an official apology for what he says was an unforgivable failure to act on his predictions. “There are people who must apologize to me, and they must have the weight of what occurred on their conscience,” Giuliani said after the quake hit, according to local news site Ilcapoluogo.com.
Report: 2 taken from scene of deadly Binghamton shootings
A lone gunman began shooting Friday in an immigration services building in Binghamton, New York, killing at least four people, a law enforcement source close to the situation said. The source said more than a dozen were wounded. Police on the scene told CNN affiliate WBNG-TV that up to 12 people were killed in the shooting.
