Pakistan cricket tour to Bangladesh ditched
Bangladesh cricket chiefs have postponed Pakistan’s seven-match tour of the country scheduled to start next week, following government advice. The decision, announced on the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Web site, comes two days after a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan Test team in Pakistan city Lahore killed eight people and left as many injured. BCB’s succinct statement on Thursday read: “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed Pakistan’s Tour of Bangladesh 2009 as advised by the Government authorities.” Pakistan were scheduled to play two Twenty20 internationals and five one-day internationals in Bangladesh, starting with a Twenty20 match in Dhaka on March 10.
Man accused of wife’s beheading appears in court
A Buffalo, New York-area man accused of beheading his estranged wife made his first appearance in court Wednesday to face murder charges, according to CNN affiliate WKBW. Muzzammil Hassan, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 37-year-old wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan, days after she filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order against him. In court Wednesday, Hassan waived his right to a felony hearing, WKBW said.
Founder of Islamic TV station accused of beheading wife
The founder of an Islamic television station in upstate New York aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes has confessed to beheading his wife, authorities said. Muzzammil Hassan was charged with second-degree murder after police found the decapitated body of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, at the Bridges TV station in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, said Andrew Benz, Orchard Park’s police chief
