Barrichello revives title hopes in Valencia

Rubens Barrichello won the European Grand Prix in Valencia to move into second place in the world championship title race between Brawn GP teammate Jenson Button. Barrichello denied reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton a second successive victory with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in third place. It was Barrichello’s first grand prix victory for five years and lifted him ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber in the championship standings.

Saudis scramble to stop Hajj swine flu crisis

Saudi Arabia has launched an investigation into its first fatality from the H1N1 Virus as it tries to head off a swine flu epidemic before millions descend for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, health officials said. A statement on the BMW Sauber F1 Team’s official Web site stated that “the Formula One campaign is [no longer] a key promoter for us” and that “current developments in motor sport” had resulted in the decision

Vettel secures pole for British Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel maintained the impressive form he showed in practice by comfortably securing pole position in his Red Bull for Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The German, the only driver apart from world championship leader Jenson Button to win a Formula One race this season, finished nearly four tenths of a second quicker than Button’s Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello, with the other Red Bull of Mark Webber third on the grid. Button, who leads the standings by 26-points after dominating the season with six victories from seven races, is down in sixth place — his worse qualifying of the season — to the disappointment of home supporters.

Vettel claims pole position for Turkish GP

Sebastian Vettel grabbed pole for Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul to deny Jenson Button a hat-trick of starts from top spot on the grid. The German Red Bull driver left it until the final hot lap of the closing 10-minute qualifying session to demote championship leader Button down to second, with Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello back in third position. It is the third pole of the 21-year-old’s career, with both his victories to date coming from the front of the grid, in Italy last year and China this season

Rosberg proves dominant in practise again

Williams driver Nico Rosberg continued his domination of this season’s Formula One practise sessions by again emerging quickest ahead of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix. In searing temperatures, Rosberg posted a time of one minute 33.339 seconds in his second sesion around the 5.412km Sakhir circuit, the seventh time in 11 practise sessions this season that he has topped the timesheets. However, to date, the German has been unable to transfer that form into qualifying, starting fifth, sixth and seventh in Australia, Malaysia and China so far — collecting a mere 3.5 points in the process

Vettel ends Brawn GP’s pole domination

Germany’s Sebastian Vettel claimed his first-ever pole for Red Bull as this season”s all-conquering Brawn GP team were relegated to fourth and fifth fastest in Shanghai on Saturday. Vettel, widely regarding as one of the most promising young drivers in F1, will share front row with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in his Renault with his teammate Mark Webber qualifying third.

Britain’s Jenson Button claimed pole position for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne — leading a sweep of the front row for Formula One new boys Brawn GP. Button edged out teammate Rubens Barrichello of Brazil by three hundredths of a second to claim the fourth pole of his stop start career. But Saturday’s qualifying provided little cheer for reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, who will start 15th on the grid as his McLaren again struggled for pace.
