Did Usher steal song for Bieber?

One of Justin Bieber’s hit songs is the target of a US$10 million copyright infringement lawsuit that also accuses Bieber’s mentor, R&B singer Usher, of funnelling the song to the teen pop star. R&B singer Devin Copeland, known professionally as De Rico, and songwriter Mareio Overton filed a lawsuit last week in US District Court in Virginia alleging that they came up with the song Somebody to Love.

BETTER TOMORROW Etana (FMR/Universal) While Rita Marley might be the undisputed queen of reggae, Etana has finally made an album that establishes her credentials to be considered a serious contender to the throne. Her blow-away performance at Raggamuffin in Rotorua earlier this year, introduced her to reggae’s second spiritual home and her third album shows a fierce determination to get back to her Kingston roots and exudes a major dose of positivity.

Album review: Sonido de LatinAotearoa

SONIDO DE LATINAOTEAROA LatinAotearoa (Rhythmethod) It’s doubtful the creative catalysts behind LatinAotearoa – DJ Bobby Brazuka, Jennifer Zea and Isaac Aesili – could have made such a magical album on their own but together, well, they’re a funky and sensual force of nature. The title shouldn’t be misconstrued as a Kiwi take on Latin music – Zea is originally from Venezuela and Brazuka from Chile while Aesili is homegrown – but it was brewed here and features an extraordinary Spanish version of Ladi6’s Walk Right Up.

Album review: Bloodsport – Suede

BLOODSPORTS Suede (Warner) It’s been well over a decade since the last Suede album and yet their new album is such a natural progression of what’s come before that the cellular memory kicks in straight away. And while singer Brett Anderson and guitarist Bernard Fanning might have appeared to have mended their errant ways with their duel project The Tears it hasn’t led to a full reconciliation.
