India probes uranium link to disabled children

India’s Department of Atomic Energy is sending an investigative team to the northern state of Punjab after traces of uranium where found in the hair samples of children and adults with disabilities. The incident involving Brand, the host of the Radio 2 program which aired the calls, and the entertainer Jonathan Ross, who took part, provoked outrage. The two men left a series of crude messages for actor Andrew Sachs, who played Spanish waiter Manuel in the 1970s TV comedy series “Fawlty Towers,” during Brand’s Saturday evening radio program on October 18

One of the earliest photographs in existence sold for $62,500 at Sotheby’s auction house in New York. The photo, which was estimated to bring in anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000, was sold to an unidentified buyer. The 5.5-by-4-inch, black and white daguerreotype shows a New York country estate

Eerie figure haunts Scottish castle

The figure peers down silently from an upper floor of the ruins of a Scottish castle, wearing what looks like an outfit from the Middle Ages. Could this be a long-dead Scottish earl, or just a random, modern-day visitor? The eerie image is captured in a photograph taken by tourist Christopher Aitchison in May 2008 at Tantallon Castle, which sits on a rocky outcrop along the Scottish coast, east of Edinburgh.

Up to 17 killed in Montana plane crash, officials say

Children were among the victims of a plane crash that killed as many as 17 people Sunday in Butte, Montana, according to authorities in Oroville, California, where the aircraft stopped for fuel. The single-engine plane stopped at the Oroville airport at about 11 a.m. PT, refueled and departed about half an hour later, Police Chief Kirk Trostle said.
