From underwater, Maldives sends warning on climate change

With fish as witnesses, the president of Maldives and his Cabinet wore scuba gear and used hand signals Saturday at an underwater meeting to highlight the threat climate change poses to the archipelago nation. More than 1 billion going hungry, U.N. says

The global economic crisis has caused a spike in world hunger that has left more than a billion undernourished, United Nations agencies said in a new report. “It is unacceptable in the 21st century that almost one in six of the world’s population is now going hungry,” said Josette Sheeran, executive director of the World Food Programme.

U.N. official admits Afghan vote fraud

The top United Nations official in Afghanistan on Sunday defended himself against allegations that he has been wary to publicly address problems in the country’s recent presidential election.
