UK terror chief quits after security blunder

Britain’s top counter-terrorism officer has resigned, the London mayor’s office said Thursday, a day after he accidentally exposed a sensitive document about a terrorism investigation. Police were forced to bring forward the timing of a series of raids after Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick unwittingly revealed the names of those to be arrested. Quick was photographed as he got out of a car at Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s residence in London and the names were easily to read when the images were enlarged.

Israeli minister grilled in fraud probe

Israeli fraud investigators Tuesday questioned Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman for a third time regarding a long-standing probe over business dealings, a police spokesman said. For five hours, investigators asked Lieberman about suspicions of money laundering, fraud and breach of trust in a corruption investigation that dates back several years, police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said. Lieberman was also questioned by the Israeli National Fraud Investigation Unit for several hours on Thursday and Friday.

Rebels arrested in assassination plot, Colombian leader says

Colombian police foiled a plot by Marxist guerrillas to assassinate the nation’s defense minister, according to President Alvaro Uribe. Ten guerrillas dressed as police planned to infiltrate the family farm of Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos over Easter week and kill the official and his family, Uribe said Thursday on national television. The guerrillas, who belong to the FARC, the Spanish acronym for Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, were captured, Uribe said.
