Heaviest UK snow in 18 years hits international flights

The worst snowstorm to hit Britain in 18 years forced the cancellation of more than 650 flights at London’s Heathrow airport Monday and shut down the city’s bus network, partially paralyzing the British capital. Heathrow, one of the busiest transport hubs in the world, closed both its runways for more than two hours Monday morning and operated with just one for the rest of the morning, according to BAA, the company which runs it.

Feds issue ‘urgent’ recommendation for Boeing 777s

Federal transportation safety officials Wednesday issued an "urgent" recommendation calling for a redesign of a component on some Boeing 777 aircraft engines — a component blamed for two major mishaps in the past year. National Transportation Safety Board investigators said the Rolls-Royce engine component played a role in the January 17, 2008, crash of a British Airways jet near London’s Heathrow Airport. Both the plane’s engines lost power as the plane approached the runway, and 13 people were injured in the resulting crash
