Wheel falls off Colgan plane at Buffalo airport

A wheel from the main landing gear of a Colgan Airlines passenger plane fell off and rolled away as the aircraft was landing in Buffalo, New York, earlier this week. On Thursday night, The Toronto Sun posted a video of the incident shot by a passenger on the Q400 Bombardier — the same type of plane involved in a fatal Colgan Airlines crash three months ago, also on approach to Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Teens acquitted of murder in immigrant’s fatal beating

Two Pennsylvania teens were acquitted of murder, aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation charges Friday in the beating death of a Mexican immigrant last summer. However, a Schuylkill County jury found Brandon Piekarsky and Derrick Donchak guilty of simple assault stemming from the death of Luis Ramirez, who died of blunt force injuries to the head after a fight with the defendants and their friends. Donchak, 19, was also found guilty of providing alcohol to the group of teens that encountered Ramirez the night of July 12 on a residential street in the rural mining town of Shenandoah.

Witnesses saw and heard plane going down

The plane that crashed Thursday night near Buffalo, New York, had its nose down and wings tilted to the left just before impact, a witness told CNN on Friday morning. “The plane was nose down — not as steep as is being reported but steep enough that it didn’t look right,” said Tony Tatro, who lives next to the crash site in Clarence Center.

Plane crashes into suburban Buffalo-area home; 49 killed

A Continental Airlines plane crashed into a home near Buffalo, New York, late Thursday, killing 44 passengers and four crew members on board, according to New York State police. Authorities also said one person on the ground was killed. It is not yet known whether that person was in the home at the time of the crash.
