Radio’s Savage wants UK to remove name from banned list
American radio talk-show host Michael Savage said he wants an apology from Britain’s home secretary and his name removed from a list of people banned from entering the United Kingdom. “I’ve heard from British attorneys who are salivating to set the record straight and win quite a large settlement should she not remove my name from the list,” Savage said in an interview broadcast Thursday on CNN’s “American Morning.” Savage was referring to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, whose office recently excluded 22 people from entering the country because the government feels they have been “stirring up hatred.” The British government has cited Savage — who is on the list under his real name, Michael Alan Weiner — for “seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence.” Savage has made controversial statements against homosexuality, illegal immigrants from Mexico and Islam. He said that “borders, language and culture is the real message of ‘The Savage Nation,’ ” his radio talk show.
Terry supports Drogba after referee rant
Chelsea and England captain John Terry is backing striker Didier Drogba even though the Ivorian striker is under-fire for his post-match confrontation with referee Tom Henning following Chelsea’s Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona. Terry slammed the Norwegian referee and accused UEFA of making a mistake by appointing Henning to the semifinal second leg. Chelsea looked to have set-up a repeat of last year’s Champions League final against Manchester United when Michael Essien put them in front with a 20-yard volley in the ninth minute
Man United crush Arsenal to reach final
Holders Manchester United remain on course to become the first side to retain the Champions League, as two goals in the first 11 minutes saw them defeat Arsenal 3-1 for a 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in the final against either Chelsea or Barcelona in Rome. A carnival atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium saw the home fans optimistic that last week’s 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford could be overturned, but those hopes were cruelly dashed as two individual mistakes allowed United to take a foothold in the game — a position they never looked likely to relinquish. Arsenal went into the match unbeaten in their last 27 home matches in Europe, since Chelsea defeated them 2-1 at Highbury in 2004, and had yet to taste European defeat at the Emirates, but that proud record always looked in doubt from the moment United took an eighth-minute lead.

O’Hair finished with a three-under 69 to hold off fellow Americans Lucas Glover and Bubba Watson, with the world number one a further shot back after a frustrating level-par 72. Woods admitted afterwards that he is still looking to rediscover his best form after his comeback from knee surgery.

Manufacturers and pharmacies are reporting a sharp increase in demand for face masks. Chemists in the UK and in France contacted by CNN said they had been out of face masks since Monday, attributing demand to fears over swine flu.
