A handful of people rallied outside the Japanese Embassy on Saturday to show support for an American man who is jailed in Japan, accused of trying to kidnap his own children. During the demonstration, Christopher Savoie’s wife, Amy, along with others from the Children’s Rights Council of Japan — a group that advocates visitation for both parents in divorce cases, and which organized Saturday’s event — called for Savoie’s release.

Honduras is accusing Brazil’s government of instigating an insurrection within its borders, and gave the Brazilian Embassy 10 days to decide the status of ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya, who has taken refuge there. “Since the clandestine arrival to Honduras by ex-president Zelaya, the Brazil embassy has been used to instigate violence and insurrection against the Honduran people and the constitutional government,” the secretary of foreign affairs for Honduras’ de facto government said in a statement late Saturday night.

Deposed Honduran President Jose Manual Zelaya, holed up in the Brazilian Embassy in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, said Thursday that he would stay there “as long as it takes.” In an interview with CNN’s Rick Sanchez, Zelaya, who was ousted in a June 28 coup, said he had never lost the title of president. “I am the president of Honduras, and I’ll stay here in the Brazilian Embassy as long as it takes,” he said without elaborating.

Britain denies deal with Libya over slain London cop
The British government has not dropped the case of a British police officer who was shot dead outside the Libyan embassy in London 25 years ago, the Foreign Office insisted Sunday. Prime Minister Gordon Brown raised the killing of Yvonne Fletcher with Libya’s leader, Moammar Gadhafi, as recently as July, when he visited Tripoli, a Foreign Office spokesman said.
