Three charged with murder in beating death of Chicago teen

Three teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old boy whose beating was captured on amateur video. Nineteen-year-old Silvanus Shannon, 16-year-old Eric Carson and 18-year-old Eugene Riley were charged as adults with first degree felony murder, said Tandra Simonton, spokesperson for the Cook County States Attorney.

Honduras issues deadline to Brazil over ousted president

Honduras is accusing Brazil’s government of instigating an insurrection within its borders, and gave the Brazilian Embassy 10 days to decide the status of ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya, who has taken refuge there. “Since the clandestine arrival to Honduras by ex-president Zelaya, the Brazil embassy has been used to instigate violence and insurrection against the Honduran people and the constitutional government,” the secretary of foreign affairs for Honduras’ de facto government said in a statement late Saturday night.

Zelaya: Brazilian Embassy in Honduras attacked with gas

Ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya said he and supporters holed up at the Brazilian Embassy were victims of a “neurotoxic” gas attack Friday morning that caused many people to have nose bleeds and breathing difficulties. An official with Brazil’s Foreign Ministry told CNN there was some type of gas used in the area but could not confirm it was a nerve agent

Ousted Honduran leader says he’ll stay in Brazilian Embassy

Deposed Honduran President Jose Manual Zelaya, holed up in the Brazilian Embassy in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, said Thursday that he would stay there “as long as it takes.” In an interview with CNN’s Rick Sanchez, Zelaya, who was ousted in a June 28 coup, said he had never lost the title of president. “I am the president of Honduras, and I’ll stay here in the Brazilian Embassy as long as it takes,” he said without elaborating.
