Lawyers in Pakistan begin four-day march to capital

Hundreds of lawyers and their supporters boarded buses in Karachi that will carry them to the capital, Islamabad, where they will demand that the government immediately restore judges that the previous president ousted. The group, numbering from 300 to 500, will join thousands of other demonstrators who are also headed to the capital as part of a four-day “Long March.” The demonstrators plan a massive sit-in at the parliament building on Monday. “Our movement is a peaceful movement,” said organizer Rasheed Razvi, president of the Sindh High Court Bar Association.

Tariq Aziz, ‘Chemical Ali’ sentenced by Iraq court

The top court in Iraq sentenced two of Saddam Hussein’s half-brothers to death Wednesday for crimes against humanity. The court also sentenced former Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz and a former senior official known as “Chemical Ali” — Ali Hassan al-Majeed — to 15 years in custody for crimes against humanity, an official with the Iraq High Tribunal told CNN. The men were sentenced for their roles in the 1992 execution of 42 merchants.

DNA proves Bolsheviks killed all of Russian czar’s children

One of the most enduring mysteries of the 20th century has been put to rest: DNA analysis of bone fragments has proven that two of Czar Nicholas’ children believed to have escaped were killed with their royal family during the Russian Revolution. The chemically damaged and burnt remains were found in the Romanov family’s makeshift grave outside the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2007.
