Olympus Has Fallen won’t win an Oscar

Olympus has Fallen (R16) 120 mins ——————– I generally do not watch trailers before seeing a movie, so if you are the same, let me tell you first off that, despite its title and the presence of a burly Gerard Butler, this is no sandals and swords epic. One thing you can reasonably intuit about the film, however, is that with director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) at the helm, it should not be too shabby.

Man of Steel gets action crazy

The first trailers for the Superman reboot Man of Steel have been sombre affairs: a lot of soulful staring and angst from our hero as he wanders the world searching for answers. The voiceovers and mournful wailing of the soundtrack are all very beautiful but if Warner Bros is to get bums on seats – and the latest tracking figures show that Man of Steel isn’t a must-see picture for audiences – then it needs to showcase a hero who can still punch throw walls and whizz about the heavens faster than speeding bullet

Oprah most influential celebrity

Oprah Winfrey was crowned America’s most influential celebrity for a second straight year, despite having dropped off daily television in 2011. Forbes magazine ranked Winfrey, 59, ahead of Hollywood titans Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood and towering over other TV figures such as journalist Barbara Walters and financial guru Suze Orman.

Amnesty International Report on U.S. Maternal Health

But in a new report on pregnancy and childbirth care in the U.S., Amnesty details the maternal-health care crisis in this country as part of a systemic violation of women’s rights.
