New population of endangered orangutans found
Conservationists have found a new population of orangutans in a steep, mountainous corner of Indonesia — a discovery that significantly adds to the number of the endangered red-haired primates. About 65,000 orangutans are thought to remain in the wild, limited to rain forests on two islands in Malaysia and Indonesia: Borneo and Sumatra.

PETA to Pet Shop Boys: Rescue Shelter Boys, perhaps?
Just because they named their new CD "Yes," does not mean that British electro-pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys, will agree to just about anything. The band has turned down a request from an animal rights group to rename itself the Rescue Shelter Boys. The organization, the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA), sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe acknowledging that its request, at first blush, might appear “bizarre.” But, by changing its name, the band could raise awareness at every tour stop of the “cramped, filthy conditions” that breeders keep animals in before selling them to pet stores, PETA said in its letter.
‘Python Patrol’ targets giant snakes of South Florida

Angola rabies outbreak kills 83 children
A severe rabies epidemics has claimed the lives of at least 83 children within three months in Angola’s capital, Luanda, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. Describing the situation as “very worrying,” WHO rabies expert Francois Meslin told CNN: “This is a huge number and could be the tip of the iceberg.” A doctor working at the country’s biggest referral hospital Hospital Pediatrico David Bernardino said staff were unable to save any of the children as rabies vaccines had run out. Some of the children were also brought into the hospital too late to be saved, Luis Bernardino, head of the hospital told UN humanitarian organization IRIN.
