Report: Air passengers ‘out of pocket’ over missing bags

Airlines are failing to adequately compensate passengers for lost and missing bags, according to industry rights group the Air Transport Users Council (AUC). The AUC says many passengers are left “out of pocket” because there’s no financial or legal imperative for airlines to offer a decent payout.

Ryanair considers charging passengers to pee

The ever budget-conscious boss of Ryanair has suggested the discount airline may start charging passengers for using the toilet on board its flights. Michael O’Leary said the airline had revived inquiries into whether the airline could install coin-operated toilets on its fleet.

Turks, Americans are Amsterdam crash dead

The nationalities of the people killed in the Turkish Airlines plane crash near Amsterdam’s main airport have been identified as five Turks and four U.S. citizens. Among the dead were two Boeing employees, among four onboard the flight, their company said late Thursday in a posting on its Web site.

Peanuts on Northwest Airlines prompt protests

The return of peanuts to the snack menu at Northwest Airlines this month has prompted a spasm of protests from travelers with allergies. The change comes four months after Northwest merged with Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines and in the midst of a national salmonella outbreak involving Peanut Corporation of America.

Plane crashes into suburban Buffalo-area home; 49 killed

A Continental Airlines plane crashed into a home near Buffalo, New York, late Thursday, killing 44 passengers and four crew members on board, according to New York State police. Authorities also said one person on the ground was killed. It is not yet known whether that person was in the home at the time of the crash.
