California legislators plan to keep trying Tuesday to find consensus on a controversial proposal that would release at least 27,000 inmates from state prisons. Bomber kills 25 at Iraq peace conference
At least 25 people were killed and 20 wounded in a suicide car bombing targeting a national reconciliation conference in Baghdad, an Interior Ministry official told CNN. Tuesday’s attack on a municipal building of Abu Ghraib in western Baghdad came as tribal leaders were attending the conference, the official said. The bombing came three days after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki rallied sheikhs of the nation’s tribes to participate in Iraq’s government.
Puerto Rico’s governor says ‘government is bankrupt’

‘Dire’ economy shaking Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe’s new prime minister on Sunday called the country’s economic situation "dire and serious" and asked the international community for help. Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said Zimbabwe will have to “borrow and beg” because it needs urgent attention. “Please, be in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe,” he said during a gathering marking the 10th anniversary of his Movement for Democratic Change party, held in Gweru, about 190 miles (300 kilometers) from Harare, the capital.
