Swearing In Middleborough, Mass Will Cost You $20 and Littering Will Get You Fined Another $50

In the town of Middleborough, Massachusetts residents got fed up with hearing profanity and seeing trash strewn around the streets of their small town. So, they did something about it. They passed a law that makes it an offence to litter or swear in public, the charge: $20 for cursing and $50 for littering.

One resident in favor of the new law states that she believes, even though it may not completely solve the problem “it will help to make people aware of what is acceptable behaviour.”

The law was enacted because of several requests to the government offices and police station regarding stopping the profanity and littering about town.

The police chief said regarding the new law, that even though the local police have a lot more important things to do that these issues were “quality of life issues, policing issues” and went on to say the local law enforcement will do what it can to enforce the new laws.

Not all residents of the town agree, one young man said he “disagrees with it because cursing doesn’t physically hurt anybody”
