Stone sues nanny for unpaid debt

Sharon Stone is suing her former nanny for allegedly stealing US$9500 in cash. The 55-year-old actress has filed the suit against Erlinda Elemen in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to TMZ.

Court documents obtained by the website claim Stone loaned US$12,500 (NZ$15k) to the woman hired to look after her children in 2010, but was only paid back US$3000 (NZ$3600).

According to the report, Elemen stopped making payments in January 2011. She was apparently fired the following month. Stone was suing for US$9500 plus interest.

Elemen was reportedly employed by the Basic Instinct star for several years and travelled extensively with Stone and her three sons until she was terminated.

The women have been tangled in a legal battle for the last year.

Elemen initially filed suit against her former boss in May 2012, claiming the actress made derogatory statements about her Filipino accent and said her people were “stupid”.

She also alleged that she sometimes worked seven days a week, was not allowed to have a bible in the star’s home and claimed Stone accused her of “stealing” for getting overtime payments and demanded the money was returned.

“Because abuses in overtime pay are common for household employees it seems ironic that Ms Stone initially did the right thing and paid Mrs Elemen overtime wages and then terminated her for accepting those same wages,” the nanny’s lawyer Solomon Gresen said in a statement.

Elemen claimed that Stone was in violation of labour laws and had filed a complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing in February 2012 alleging harassment, failure to prevent harassment and retaliation, among other things.
