The race is on to get a Sticky Filth LP in the charts.
The band’s album Fourth Domain was released on vinyl yesterday. The week the band’s Weep Woman Weep single was released on vinyl, last year, it made the top 10 alongside Lorde with Royals.
So, Vinyl Countdown owner Mark Thomas was keen to get as many copies out there in the next week to try to get a similar result.
There was only a limited run of the Fourth Domain vinyl double album and Mr Thomas already had preorders from people in Australia, Europe and America.
Fourth Domain was originally released on CD in 2011.
Sticky Filth vinyl records were rare, Mr Thomas said.
“So, in terms of a project in vinyl this was a no brainer.”
Mr Thomas got the records pressed in Nashville, a process that took a few months.
He started working on the record last August, but the company in Tennessee was busy during the Christmas period so it took a long time, he said.
Then the records ended up stuck in customs in Los Angeles.
“There are a lot of hoops to jump through.”
But the effort was worth it.
“It sounds huge on my stereo at home. It sounds different to a CD.”
This was a full-length double LP, he said.
And vinyl is no longer boring black – one record is see-through gold and the other blue.
