Big Brother Watch director, Nick Pickles, warns that as the software giants are racing to be the first to create a more advanced 3D satellite mapping, they may be sacrificing your privacy. Pickles warns us that “The next generation of maps is taking us over the garden fence. You won’t be able to sunbathe in your garden without worrying about an Apple or Google plane buzzing overhead taking pictures.”
Director Pickles suggested that apple should be required to get permission before photographing private domiciles.
Apple is unveiling its new mapping application for its iPhone today. Current 3D mapping relies upon areal images, which are of low resolution. These images tend to get blurry when zoomed in upon.
About this New Military Technology
- The Spy Planes now being used by Apple are supposedly being equipped with the same technology used in defense planes to guide missile strikes
- Each plane is equipped with multiple cameras taking high-resolution photographs of buildings and landmarks from every possible angle, which are then compiled to make three-dimensional images
- The military grade images can be taken from as high as 1600+ feet, meaning it will next to impossible to tell if you are being photographed
- The cameras are not only being installed in planes, but can be utilized from helicopters and unmanned drones as well.
- A small plane equipped with one of these high tech devices can photograph as much as 100 square kilometers of area per hour

Currently most large cities have 3D maps available online. The maps, however, are mostly low resolution photographs, making it difficult to zoom in for any real details. Many are saying Apple and Google should brace themselves for a backlash of criticism when they begin offering up high resolution, 3D mapping of
