In a double blow for music fans everywhere, Billy Ray Cyrus has released a bizarre hip-hop version of his notorious ’90s earworm, Achy Breaky Heart, while cricketer Shane Warne is reportedly working on an album of love songs in the style of James Blunt.
Cyrus, or BRC, as he is being styled, collaborated with the son of soul legend Dionne Warwick, Damon Elliott, on the reboot of Achy Breaky Heart, called Achy Breaky 2.
It was released with a wacky video showing Cyrus, father of Miley Cyrus, being abducted in a spaceship by race of largely naked, twerking dancers.
The song features the lines: “Miley keeps twerking/Daddy’s song is workin’/Now, Billy sing that crazy hook again.”
The original Achy Breaky Heart, released in 1992, was a massive hit for Cyrus – a success he has demonstrably since failed to replicate.
Meanwhile, Warne has apparently penned a love-lorn ballad about his split with Liz Hurley.
“The song’s basically about life,” Warne told radio station Kiis FM. “I’m just putting it down. It could be absolute rubbish but I’m trying. I’m giving it to a mate who is in a pretty cool band and I’m going to see what he thinks of it.”
There have been whispers that his “mate” could be Coldplay’s Chris Martin and that he has plans to continue the song writing to produce an album of love songs a la James Blunt.
Urgent comment was being sought from Warne.
