Sandra Bullock scoops SAG nod


Sandra Bullock has bagged a nomination for best actress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

There has been Oscars buzz around the American star for her role in Gravity, where she commands the screen with George Clooney as her sole co-star.

Now the space flick has bagged Sandra her first awards nod in the coveted category.

Also nominated is Cate Blanchett for her part in Blue Jasmine, Dame Judi Dench for Philomena, Meryl Streep for August: Osage County and Emma Thompson for Saving Mr. Banks.

12 Years a Slave, which tells the true story of Solomon Northup who was sold into slavery, has done well with four nominations, one being in the best motion picture cast category.

Main star Chiwetel Ejiofor has a nod for best actor and Lupita Nyong’o in the best supporting actress category.

The film’s Michael Fassbender is also nominated in the best male supporting actor category.

Also up for best cast in a motion picture are American Hustle, August: Osage County, Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Dallas Buyers Club.

Challenging Chiwetel for the best male actor prize are Bruce Dern for Nebraska, Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips, Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club and Forest Whitaker in Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

Television nominations have also been announced, with Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and Homeland vying for the best drama title.

The best comedy award could go to Arrested Development, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family or Veep.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on January 18.
