Comedienne and talk show host, who recently revealed she suffered a heart attack earlier this month, has secretly exchanged wedding vows with fiancée Michelle Rounds. Both Rounds and O’Donnell have been dealing with health issues. On June 9 the couple elected to have a private ceremony in New York, saying they will have a larger celebration to honor their their commitment when they are both feeling better.
“They got married but they haven’t had the wedding celebration,” a rep added.
The couple, who announced their engagement in Dec. 2011, decided to move up their wedding date after Rounds was diagnosed with desmoid tumors, a rare disease that only affects three out of every million people.
O’Donnell and Rounds were initially set to wed in August, however decided to quietly tie the knot just before Rounds’ first surgery on June 14.
“It is such a rare tumor. It took them quite a while to get an accurate diagnosis,” O’Donnell’s rep told the magazine. “She had several gastrointestinal surgeries to remove the desmoid tumors. She is now on the road to recovery.”
O’Donnell also took to her blog Monday morning to share her news with fans.
“we married in private before her surgery, just the 2 of us,” she wrote. “when we r both well enough will have the wedding of r dreams surrounded by those we cherish.
“thankful for the love and support so many have given us during these trying times,” she continued. “including all of u stranger-friends connected thru invisible strands of wi fi.”
