The Rolling Stones have confirmed they are coming to New Zealand next year to play one show at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium.
It will be their first gig Down Under since their 2006 A Bigger Bang world tour, during which guitarist Keith Richards infamously fell out of a coconut tree in Fiji and was flown to Mercy Ascot Hospital in Auckland to undergo brain surgery.
It may well be the last one. The band members are all in their late 60s or early 70s and are not expected to launch another world tour.
Frontman Mick Jagger said: “Can’t wait to reconnect with all our friends in Australia & New Zealand. It’s been a while since we’ve played to you all, so we are looking forward to being back on stage & playing your favourite songs.”
Richards added: “We all had such a ball this year and so we wanted to keep it going! The energy between the band is better than ever and we’re all looking forward to coming back Down Under. I can’t wait to get back on the stage with the boys.”
