Rob Lowe has spoken to the New York Times Magazine about the curse of being too pretty, telling reporter Taffy Brodesser-Akner,
“There’s this unbelievable bias and prejudice against quote-unquote good-looking people, that they can’t be in pain or they can’t have rough lives or be deep or interesting. They can’t be any of the things that you long to play as an actor. I’m getting to play those parts now and loving it. When I was a teen idol, I was so goddamn pretty I wouldn’t have taken myself seriously.”
The truth is, Lowe is goddamn pretty and it’s hard to feel sorry for someone complaining about being too beautiful – beauty is the currency of the world!
But you know, it’s not nice to be stereotyped ever. And it looks bad on the rest of us ordinary folk that we automatically assume pretty people can’t have tough lives or be interesting. We’re better than that.
