Miley Cyrus got people talking during Sunday’s Video Music Awards, using her win for Video of the Year as a platform for homeless youth in America.
Cyrus yielded her acceptance speech spotlight to Jesse Helt, a homeless teen currently residing in Los Angeles, California, who Cyrus brought as her date to the awards show.
Helt shared his moving story with the audience.
“I have survived in shelters all over this city,” he said. “I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms. I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in your life.”
