Morning-line favorite I Want Revenge was scratched from the Kentucky Derby on Saturday "after an undiagnosed problem" was spotted in the colt’s left front ankle, the derby said.
The horse is the betting favorite in the 135th running of the derby, which will be run at 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday in Louisville at Churchill Downs. Jeff Mullins, who trained the horse, was quoted by the derby as saying he was pleased with the horse’s preparations but raised the possibility that the “colt wrenched his ankle while training on a wet track Friday morning. ” Mullins said the horse was unlikely to run two weeks from now in the Preakness. The Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes are the the three spring horse races known as the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing.
