The man behind singing powerhouse Lorde and classical trio Sol3 Mio, has received top honours at this year’s national Music Managers Awards.
Scott MacLachlan took out Manager of the Year at the Auckland award ceremony last night for his work with the double Grammy winner, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, and the home-grown opera-singing trio.
MacLachlan also won the International Achievement award for his work growing the two acts in the American and European markets, as well as helping Lorde reach unprecedented global recognition.
Dean Lawton, the manager of South Auckland-based band Sons of Zion, won the Breakthrough Manager award.
The Best Independent Tour award was presented to Teresa Patterson, for putting together the Six60 tour and I Am Giant Razor Wire Reality single release tour. The bands played to a combined audience of more than 13,000 across both tours.
David McBride won Self-Managed Artist of the Year for his act Sheep, Dog & Wolf.
Singer Anna Hawkins, who supported the Paul Potts tour and released her debut album, was named the Mentoring Success Story of the year.
Lorraine Owen of Music Managers Forum NZ (MMF) said it had been a phenomenal year for New Zealand music, and Kiwi managers were among the best in the world.
The ceremony was held last night at The Tuning Fork in Auckland. The awards are run by MMF, Recorded Music NZ and the NZ Music Commission.
