Lorde the favourite for Grammy sweep

Bookies are tipping Lorde to sweep the Grammy Awards with four wins, including the elite categories Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Bookmakers say the 17-year-old is almost certain to win Song of the Year for her worldwide hit Royals at today’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

The bookies have her at the short-priced odds of 8/11 in the category, just ahead of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for Same Love.

Lorde’s biggest threat for Record of the Year is Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams’ Get Lucky while she is also favourite for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Among the Kiwis rooting for Lorde is the Prime Minister, John Key.

“One thing you’ve got to say about Lorde, is win, lose or draw, it is incredible,” he said on Breakfast.

“I personally think she’s going to do exceptionally well.

“For one thing obviously we were in the [United] States at Christmas time [and] she is everywhere – every radio station, every TV show she’s there.

“They love her there as much as we love her here so I think she’s going to do incredibly well.”

New Zealand-born, Australian-raised Keith Urban, who is hoping for the fifth Grammy of his career, is nominated for his Highway Don’t Care collaboration with Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

With 82 categories to be announced on Monday AEDT, the Grammys are divided into two ceremonies.

The pre-TV telecast ceremony, where 70 categories will be announced, begins at 10am while the main ceremony where the top categories are announced and televised live begins at 2pm.

Jay-Z has nine nominations, more than any other artist.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake have seven nominations while Lorde, Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift have four.
