Lorde has scheduled a new stand-alone Auckland concert after cancelling her performance at St Jerome’s Laneway Festival so she could attend the Grammys.
The Kiwi pop star has been nominated for four Grammy music awards, but the awards ceremony in Los Angeles clashed with her scheduled performance at Laneway Festival in Auckland on January 27.
Laneway organisers announced this morning Lorde would attend the Grammy ceremony, leaving the Auckland festival without its headline act.
However, a new all-ages concert featuring Lorde will now be held on January 29 at Silo Park in Auckland, which Laneway ticket holders can attend for free.
Lorde, the Auckland 17-year-old, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has been nominated for Song of the Year for her international hit Royals, which held the top spot of the US Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for nine weeks.
Lorde was also nominated for Record of the Year for Royals, alongside Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams, Radioactive, Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke.
The singer’s other nominations included best pop vocal album, for Pure Heroine, and best pop solo performance for Royals.
P!nk’s Just Give Me A Reason, Bruno Mars’ Locked Out Of Heaven, Katy Perry’s Roar, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Same Love were the other four singles nominated for Song of the Year.
Lorde released her debut album, Pure Heroine, on September 30 – the final day to be considered for Grammy nominations.
The line-up for the festival also includes Scottish electro-poppers Chvrches, Detroit native Danny Brown, sister trio Haim and Mercury Prize winner James Blake.
While Laneway is an 18-only festival, the new Lorde show will be all ages, and will be her only show in New Zealand this summer.
