Lindsay Lohan believes her upcoming trip to rehab is “a blessing, not a curse”.
The 26-year-old actress is required to check into a stay facility for 90 days of treatment by May 2 to meet the conditions of her plea deal in her reckless driving case.
Lohan gave her first interview since November 2012 on America’s Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday (local time) and the comedian took the opportunity to grill her about her next stint.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in rehab now” he mused.
Lohan was reluctant to answer at first, stating they hadn’t addressed his line of questioning in the pre-interview.
Letterman continued to hammer away, asking her what she was being rehabbed for and if she believes she has a problem.
“I think this is an opportunity for me to focus on what I love in life and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I think it’s a blessing… not a curse,” she stated.
The actress appeared on the programme to promote her cameo on Charlie Sheen’s US sitcom Anger Management.
“I’m the happiest when I’m working and the healthiest,” she added.
Lohan’s time in rehab is part of a plea deal she struck with prosecutors after she pled no contest last month to misdemeanour charges of reckless driving and lying to police investigating her June 2012 car crash in Santa Monica, California.
She is believed to have already selected a treatment facility in her native New York and will not be permitted to leave during her stay.
The actress, who has been to rehab a handful of times, has a history of leaving facilities. She reportedly snuck out of Cirque Lodge in Utah during her stay there and allegedly got into a physical altercation with a Betty Ford attendant in a separate incident.
She will also be required to complete 30 days of community labour and 18 months of psychiatric treatment to fulfill the terms of her plea bargain and avoid jail time.
