Lindsay Lohan has reportedly checked into the Betty Ford Center.
The actress was due to start court-ordered rehab yesterday, in connection to a car crash she was involved in last year.
Initially she was going to be treated at Seafield Center in New York, but ditched those plans after realising she wouldn’t be allowed to smoke cigarettes.
She then turned up to Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach, California, but was there for just a few minutes before leaving apparently after being scared by photographers.
The move meant prosecutors were considering releasing a warrant for her arrest, as the terms of her court deal meant she needed to start her 90-day rehab spell on May 2.
Lohan reportedly rehired her former lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley to help with the legal wrangling and has now been allowed to get help at the facility in Rancho Mirage, California.
“Sources familiar with the situation tell us… Lindsay checked in late Thursday night… barely dodging a looming arrest warrant,” reports TMZ.
“We’re told prosecutors will back off their promise to seek an arrest warrant today … although they still have to get the judge to sign off on Betty Ford, but it looks like that will just be a formality.”
Lohan’s choice of centre has come as a surprise, as her last stay at the clinic did not go well. In 2010 she was accused of fighting with a staff member while receiving treatment, resulting in civil lawsuits.
It has been claimed that Lindsay went to Shawn for help after losing faith in her lawyer Mark Heller, who she took on after firing Shawn the first time around.
Heller brokered her current rehab deal, but has been criticised by a judge for not knowing enough about Californian law. There are also claims that while he told Lindsay to go to Morningside, it does not have a license and so was not a good option.
“Lindsay cannot stand her current lawyer and thinks he doesn’t know what he is doing,” a source told RadarOnline.com.
“So late Thursday, from hiding, she began calling and emailing Shawn incessantly. Shawn has always had a soft spot for Lindsay, even after everything she has pulled. She hates to see her suffering.”
