Kim Kardashian was reportedly forced to deliver her first child prematurely due to medical concerns.
The reality star gave birth to a daughter with rapper Kanye West on Saturday.
Apparently doctors made the decision to induce her around three weeks early because her condition was potentially dangerous.
The 32-year-old allegedly had severe swelling on Friday and experts were worried she had preeclampsia, reports People magazine.
Preeclampsia occurs when females get high blood pressure and protein in the urine 20 weeks into their pregnancy.
In terrible cases it can affect organs and cause poor growth for the child.
At least 36 weeks along the best cure is to deliver the child and Kardashian is thought to have been at 37 weeks.
She welcomed the bundle of joy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
“It’s a great sign that [the baby] is not in the ICU,” OB-GYN Dr. Shelena Lalji told People magazine.
The tot weighed around 5lbs and has been described as having dark hair and the same smile as her mother.
The first-time parent was not worried about delivering the youngster when it came to the appropriate time.
“I don’t think she [Kardashian] was scared,” a close friend told the publication. “She was just ready.”
Kardashian is apparently finding it difficult to let go of her little girl whose name is rumoured to be Kaidence Donda West.
However the feeling is a very healthy one according to those in the medical industry.
“For premature babies with no major complications, it’s very important that they are held close to the mother,” a hospital insider shared. “It helps them gain weight faster.”
Her boyfriend of 16 months West had just returned from promoting his new album Yeezus in Switzerland at the weekend.
He was spotted walking with the soon-to-be mom as she struggled with her contractions.
West has apparently been very supportive and keen to be there for his family since landing on US soil.
