Russell Crowe has found an unlikely ally in Kim Kardashian.
The reality TV star has urged fellow celebrities to give up a boycott of the Dorchester Collection hotel chain, called in response to anti-gay legislation introduced by its owner, the Sultan of Brunei.
Stars have turned their backs on the luxury hotels after the Sultan introduced new laws calling for Muslims caught performing homosexual acts to be stoned to death.
Kardashian says she agrees with Crowe’s views that the boycott punishes workers, not lawmakers.
“I don’t agree with the boycotting of Dorchester Collection hotels,” Crowe tweeted in May.
“It only hurts the hard working staff who I consider friends.”
The new Mrs West originally backed the boycott, but says she now agrees with the Gladiator star.
“I support … Russell Crowe’s takes on this matter,” she wrote in a blog post.
“The unjust treatment and violation of rights of the LGBT community around the world is never justified.”
“(But) boycotting the hotel won’t affect the Sultan, just our dear friends who work there.”
Kardashian had initially planned to host her bridal shower at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California.
However, she later joined stars including Sharon Osbourne and Ellen DeGeneres in boycotting the venue and moved the pre-wedding party to the nearby Peninsula Hotel.
