Katy Perry and John Mayer have reportedly called it quits on their romance for the second time.
The 28-year-old pop star and the 35-year-old musician have had an on-and-off relationship since last summer.
After dating briefly in August, they split for a few weeks and then reignited their love affair in September.
Apparently Perry and Mayer are officially no longer a couple, but friends aren’t convinced they will stay apart for too long.
“It’s sad,” a source told Us Weekly magazine.
“It’s not over until it’s over. You have to see how things play out.”
It is said that Perry and Mayer also have faith they’ll reunite.
Their separation is rumoured to have taken place due to their hectic professional lives, not because they don’t love each other.
“She’s leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work,” another insider revealed to the publication.
Following a whirlwind romance, Perry married ex-husband and infamous womaniser Russell Brand in 2009. Brand filed for divorce from the singer in 2011 citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Mayer, a known Hollywood lothario for many years, was previously romantically linked to a string of famous beauties including Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston.
Around the time he committed to Perry, Mayer spoke about his eagerness to change his philandering ways.
“I was just a jerk,” he said in an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
“It’s very liberating when you finally realise it’s impossible to make everyone like you. I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction.”
